Education and Experience Requirements for Executive Director

Executive Director Role and Responsibilities

A. Christian Leadership & Community Involvement

  1. Uphold a Christ-centered environment in classes and Board meetings
  2. Agree and believe in the Womenary Doctrinal statement (see below)
  3. Maintain an active membership in a local church
  4. Encourage students, donors, and Board members toward Christ likeness
  5. Establish and engage with the East Texas community, including faith-based conferences, other nonprofit leaders, and churches, for cultivating partnerships and relationships

B. Program Oversight

  1. Oversee and direct program development
  2. Oversee and direct all program advertising, marketing, and semester promotions in print, web, and social media
  3. Maintain corporate brand in print, web, and social media content
  4. Oversee and direct the planning of each semester, including classes, semi-annual pop-ups, and other special seminars
  5. Initiate the annual planning schedule (when to begin planning for each semester and deadlines for publications)
  6. Oversee blog/writers/graphics

C. Student Development

  1. Provide a comfortable and educational atmosphere in each class
  2. Approve/deny scholarship applications
  3. Strategic solutions to encourage student growth

D. Board Support

  1. Attend monthly Board meetings and task force meetings as needed
  2. Manage operational policies and procedures; recommend policy amendments to Board of Directors as needed
  3. Keep official documents in an organized manner: bylaws, policy/procedure, minutes and records
  4. Recognize organizational needs; direct and strategically implement effective risk management
  5. Negotiate and maintain vendor contracts, insurance policies; consult with Board of Directors as needed
  6. Provide monthly reports to Board of Directors
  7. Provide complete Board Notebooks to each new Board member
  8. Communicate guidance to the Board about strategic planning, mission, and vision

E. Class Support

  1. Communicate with host locations and professors
  2. Set up and manage online registration
  3. Anticipate programming needs of website and LMS/backend
  4. Facilitate live classes and/or create staff rotation to do so
  5. Administer student surveys at end of each semester
  6. Ensure audio recordings of classes and seminars

F. Volunteer Development

  1. Maintain volunteer database and add to the list of volunteers through student surveys
  2. Provide opportunities for student volunteers
  3. Demonstrate sincere appreciation to volunteers and recognize their contributions

G. Donor Management & Fundraising

  1. Lead grant writing pursuits and participate in fundraising strategies in partnership with the Board of Directors
  2. Lead stewardship planning, donor cultivation and fundraising appeals in partnership with the Board of Directors
  3. Create and distribute an Annual Report each year
  4. Utilize a donor system software for thank you calls/letters/conversations
  5. Plan and communicate with the Board regarding fundraising and fundraising events
  6. Provide IRS required donation documentation to donors
  7. Demonstrate sincere appreciation to donors and recognize their contributions
  8. Engage in donor appreciation (mail, in person, phone, email) within 3 days of receiving a donation (does not include donations to cover CC processing)

H. Staff & Contract Labor Support

  1. Cultivate positive culture and cohesive relations between staff members, professors, volunteers, donors, and students
  2. Responsible for hiring, reviewing, and termination of support staff and contract labor as approved by Board of Directors
  3. Lead, delegate, and supervise staff and contract labor in line with employment regulations and Womenary policy
  4. Suggest needed support staff or contract labor needs to the Board of Directors
  5. Create and/or revise job descriptions and desired tasks of support staff

I. Professor Support & Oversight

  1. Hire professors who meet the qualifications in Professor Handbook, continue to recruit as needed
  2. Review submitted syllabi and recommended texts
  3. Serve as liaison between professors and the Board
  4. Schedule substitute professors as needed
  5. Communicate with professors in a timely and professional manner

J. Finances & Budget Support

  1. Maintain Christian ethics, sound financial responsibility, and prudent oversight of the finances and budget
  2. Develop annual budget and present to Board for approval; request budget amendments as needed
  3. Accurately handle/record/deposit cash or checks of tuition or donations
  4. Pay professors and bills for organization in a timely manner
  5. Suggest money-saving strategies to the Board of Directors
  6. Supervise the completion of all IRS and Government required documentation as needed with accountant

K. Other

  1. Any other responsibilities and duties deemed necessary by the Board of Directors
