Blog / Feeding On His Faithfulness

Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them (Psalm 111:2, ESV).

As I read this verse, I couldn't help thinking of Womenary. Year after year, women who delight in God have assembled in the classroom to dig deeper into His Word and celebrate the works of the LORD.

In Genesis to Revelation, through Bibliology and Hermeneutics, from Kingdom and Covenants to Angels, Man and Sin, women sit in classrooms, hour after hour, week after week, year after year, to study God's Word. Why?

Because they delight in Him and in knowing more about Him.

Recently we celebrated together to say thank you to those who have given to Womenary either monetarily, or of their time and talents. It was a wonderful time reminiscing about what God has done and looking forward to where He is leading Womenary in the future.

Womenary was a dream God gave Mo McSwane years ago. She shared that dream with Linda Lesniewski, who then shared it with a group of women simply saying, "Tell me what you think when you hear this word: Womenary.” One woman at the end of the table said, “We have to do it!" Linda responded, "But, what is it?" The answer came,

"I don't know but we have to do it."

After many meetings, interviews, and much prayer Womenary was born. Our pilot class was held on the TJC campus in March of 2006, with 21 students enrolled to study Bibliology: How We Got the Bible. Mark Jones was our first professor. As we studied together the amazing stories of how God's Word came into being, how it has been preserved over thousands of years, and how He has caused it to be remembered, we marveled at His grace and mercy.

Full of splendor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and merciful. He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever (Psalm 110:3-5, ESV).

Now, almost 14 years later, over 1500 students have come to know this: The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy; they are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness. …Holy and awesome is his name! (Psalm 111:7-9, ESV). But the learning doesn't stop in the classroom. The women take what they have gleaned and share it with others. As they feed on His faithfulness, they are faithful to proclaim it to others, living it out in their homes, the workplace, and other classrooms.

As the new year arrives, we celebrate with the psalmist: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! (Psalm 111:10, ESV).

Thank you to those who have been a part of Womenary. Whether you are on the Board, a professor, or a student, you have been part of the work God has done and is continuing to do. We praise Him and thank Him for all that He has done.

Great are the works of the LORD, studied by all who delight in them (Psalm 111:2, ESV).

Kim fell in love with Jesus and studying God's word in the eighth grade. That eventually led to a dream of attending seminary which she did after her children were grown. She graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2013 with a Masters in Theology and was part of the original group of women who founded Womenary in 2008. She has been a past professor for Womenary and is currently the Director of Soul Care at Living Well Holistic Counseling and Wellness Center. Kim can be contacted at kim.prothro@gmail.com.
