 Fragrance  Witness

“What’s Your Fragrance?” It is not uncommon for one woman to ask another that question. She may have just walked past you and a whiff of your fragrance lingers on. What she really means is, what is the name of your perfume. Perhaps she is longing to smell the same. Yet, no fragrance is identical on every person.

What makes the difference? YOU make the difference. YOUR uniqueness. YOUR body chemistry. YOUR fingerprint. God made YOU distinctive. Our Creator created each one of us a unique vessel.

Every perfume is precisely designed with ingredients that blend perfectly together, to form what is called the absolute, the fragrance in its purest state. And as God has uniquely fashioned you, the perfumer has shaped and etched a designer bottle to enhance each specific absolute.

As I walked out of the Womenary classroom I wondered what kind of a fragrance would I carry into the market place. Has the Word of God saturated my spirit? Have I lingered over a passage long enough to get it into my heart?

Ingredients in the perfumer’s recipe file consist of various stems, sticks, shells, and resins. For one particular fragrance, handpicked blossoms and pistils of an iris soak in a solution for two years before being ready to mix into the remaining ingredients to complete the recipe.

The waiting period follows. The perfumer studies the recipe, tests the strength, and smells the bouquet. Not until that solution, that mixture, that recipe meets the desired concentration of aromatic compounds, does the master perfumer pour the costly mixture into its designated bottle and send it out to the stores.

I am told that the perfume with the iris distillate has the most lasting quality. How interesting, that a small portion of an Iris blossom, snapped off and left to soak in a bitter solution for two years, adds such a degree of sophistication and purity.

Each semester, hundreds of women who desire to spread the fragrance of Christ commit to an intense, two-hour per week, seminary-quality class to study God’s Word, the recipe for living. They are getting to know Christ through His Absolute, soaking in its godly effluence. When they walk out into their world, are they wearing the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ? Are they exuding the sweet aroma of Jesus?

Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing (2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NKJV).

So, what’s your fragrance today?
